Linux Distributions

RocksClusters.org - Rocks - A Very Cool "Cluster on a CD" linux solution. It even comes with tools for Bioinformatics computation. Their tagline: "From Zero to Cluster in Just Three CDs"
Ubuntu.com - Ubuntu - Linux for human beings. A nifty distro aimed at the home user. You can check it out without going through the install process by booting your computer with the Ubuntu Live CD.
Redhat.com - Another distribution good for beginners and advanced users.
Slackware.com - A very elegant distribution of linux for the more advanced user.

If you don't want to download your copy of linux, or you're on a tight budget, www.CheapBytes.com has an excellent selection of linux distros. Many can be purchased for under $10 (USD). They sell both "official" packaged sets as well as very low priced "download" versions they'll send to you through the mail.

The use of "hacker" to mean "security breaker" is a confusion on the part of the mass media. We hackers refuse to recognize that meaning, and continue using the word to mean, "Someone who loves to program and enjoys being clever about it." --Richard Stallman
